Example Walks

Kirk Newton to Hethpool River Hike - The Cheviot Hills

Route Overview

  • Note!  You will get wet on this hike.  Suitable clothing and shoes or boots you are prepared to walk down the river in are essential.  I will provide buoyancy aids and helmets.
  • We would park at Kirk Newton, below Yeavering Bell in the Northumberland national Park.
  • Our day starts with a walk up to Hethpool following the pretty College Burn to our left and over the lower part of The Bell.
  • We would have lunch at Hethpool then change into water gear to head back to Kirk Newton via the river.
  • There are a few waterfalls you can ride down and two gorges suitable for jumping in to cool down.  We will then make our way back to the start wading through the College Burn for hot chocolate at the vehicles.
