Spending a day in the hills can be one of life’s great pleasures — fresh air, wide landscapes, time to switch off and simply breathe. But a Fells Kitchen Adventure takes things a step further. Here, the joy of the journey is matched by the experience of sharing exceptional food, prepared and served outdoors in a beautiful location.
If you’ve never joined a guided hike with a gourmet lunch before, here’s what you can expect from the day. A Warm Welcome and a Relaxed Start We begin by meeting at a pre-arranged location — usually one with easy parking and access to the trail. There’s no rush, no pressure, and no assumption of prior hiking experience. I’ll introduce the plan for the day, answer any questions, and make sure everyone feels comfortable before we set off. The pace is steady and sociable. We walk together, never leaving anyone behind, and take time to enjoy the views along the way. Carefully Chosen Routes Each route is selected to suit the group. Whether we’re exploring the rolling hills of Northumberland, the dramatic ridges of the Lake District, the heathered slopes of the North Pennines, or the gentler landscapes of North Yorkshire, the day is always designed to feel achievable and enjoyable. If your group has particular preferences — a certain distance, a favourite valley, a view you’d love to experience — the route can be tailored to match. A Meal You’ll Remember Halfway through the day, we stop in a beautiful spot — perhaps near a ridge line, beside a waterfall, or overlooking a valley. This is when the stove comes out and the real magic happens. Lunch is cooked fresh on the hill, using quality ingredients and drawing on over 27 years of professional chef experience. The menu varies depending on the season, but you can expect something warm, generous, flavourful, and deeply satisfying. A proper two courses — not a sandwich and a cereal bar. Guests often say it feels like finding a tiny restaurant hidden in the hills — one that appears only for you. A Chance to Pause and Take it In The food is important, of course — but it’s also about the moment. Sitting together in the fresh air, sharing conversation, laughter, and good company, with the landscape stretching around us. It’s a rare chance to slow down. Guidance, Support, and Safety Throughout As a qualified Mountain Leader and professional chef, I’m always focused on keeping the group safe, comfortable and looked after — both on the trail and during the meal. Routes are planned thoughtfully, weather is checked closely, and every detail is considered. You're in safe hands — in the kitchen and on the hill. Perfect for Private Groups and Corporate Teams These days work beautifully for:
