Cheviot Crash Site - July 23rd
A fantastic hike over The Cheviot via The Hen Hole & the B17 Flying Fortress plane wreck site. The Hen Hole is a series of waterfalls on the west side of Northumberland's highest peak which offers lots of pools to take dip in if you fancy it!
From the summit, we take a bearing over to West Hill (it's a 45 minute hike over peat bogs mind!) to find the wreckage of the B17 Flying Fortress which in crashed in 1944, narrowly missing Braydon Crag. Learn about the story of the plane crash, the rescue, Sheila the sheepdog and one survivors final wish.
Meeting point - 10.00 - Hethpool Car Park, College Valley, Northumberland.
Grid Ref - 893 280
I would rate this hike as intermediate. The final push from the Hen Hole up to Auchope Cairn is quite steep, but not too long. The hike from the summit of Cheviot over to the plane is over peat hags and tussocks. There is no obvious path!
This expedition will only take place with a minimum of 6 guests. The maximum group size would be 8. You do not need to book all the spaces yourself. You can book just 1 space of you wish!
A two course lunch prepared over a wood fired stove is included.
