High Cup Nick - 29th June 25
High Cup Nick is a classic U-shaped valley high on the western flanks of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). It is on The Pennine Way.
A deep chasm on the Pennine fellside, this famous nick, a dramatic geological formation at the top of High Cup Gill is part of the well-known Whin Sill, and overlooks the best glaciated valley in Northern England.
Here you can see the grey-blue dolerite crags which also form High Force and Cauldron Snout, nearby
A two course lunch prepared over a wood fired stove is included, along with further refreshments (including my famous crème brulee!) back at the van later. I would arrange dietary and allergy requirements in advance by email. All diets catered for.
This walk is about 9 miles in length. There is a steady climb at the beginning out of Dufton along a rocky track before we get to High Cup Nick itself. The return involves descending onto the gorge where you get a sense of the immense size it is. We then return to Dufton .
This expedition will only take place with a minimum of 4 guests. The maximum number of guests would be 8.
The meeting place would be 09.30 in Dufton at the car park.
